SMBI Parking Relief Package – Delivering for Redlands

50% vehicle ferry subsidies major win for Redlands residents!

A major win for Redlanders living on our Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) is now in effect, with the launch of the SMBI Parking Relief Package — a long-overdue solution to ease the pressure on island commuters.

Bookings opened and started on Monday, 4 August 2025, giving eligible residents access to 50 per cent subsidies on vehicle ferry fares, thanks to the Crisafulli Government.

This package delivers on a key commitment made at the 2024 election by Rebecca Young MP, to reduce the complexity of commuting for SMBI families, workers, and seniors.

SeaLink’s existing 20 per cent discount for SMBI residents will remain, and the government’s additional subsidy will reduce fares by a further 50 per cent over the next two years — or until the Weinam Creek car park at Redland Bay is complete.

For the 9,000 eligible residents, that means the cost to take a car (under 5.4m) on the ferry has dropped from $72 (including the SeaLink discount) to just $36 — a saving of $36 every trip.

This initiative is now available to give Redlands' SMBI residents greater choice — making it more viable to take their vehicle across, rather than relying on foreshore parking on the mainland.

The 2025–26 State Budget delivers the reset this project needed. We've shifted the Weinam Creek multi-storey car park from TMR to Economic Development Queensland — ensuring proper planning, real community consultation, and efficient delivery by 2028.

We have also made 50c public transport fares permanent with an improved public transport connectivity.
